Liveliest in the country Cavendish is a large village in the West of Suffolk, between Clare and Long Melford, famous for its much photographed rambling Village Green with pink alms houses nestled in front of a Norman Church tower. The Sunday Telegraph, Life, has named Cavendish Village Green as the liveliest in the country! Sue Ryder, CMG, OBE Margaret Susan Cheshire, Baroness Ryder of Warsaw and Baroness Cheshire, CMG, OBE best known as Sue Ryder, was a British volunteer with Special Operations in the Second World who afterwards led the charitable organisation named in her honour. At first Cavendish was established by her following her relief work in Europe after the Second World War, as a home for concentration camp survivors and later to provide nursing care for the elderly and disabled. Leonard Lord Cheshire and his wife Sue Ryder are buried in Cavendish. |
