7:30 PM - STAR OF THE SEA: MUSIC FROM VENICE AND THE ITALIAN RENAISSANCE

The maritime republic of Venice played a unique role in the music of the Italian Renaissance and early Baroque. From the songs of the gondoliere to the splendour of the sacred works sung in St Mark’s basilica, music was at the heart of the city’s culture. In the glorious acoustic of Holy Trinity Long Melford, Cambridge Renaissance Voices recreate this Venetian soundworld, accompanied by the sackbuts and cornetts of I Musici della Contessa, including music by Lassus, Gabrieli, and Monteverdi, whose Ave Maris Stella - a characteristically Venetian celebration of the Virgin Mary as ‘star of the sea’ - comes at the culmination of his Vespers of 1610.

5:00 PM - THE CLARE CHRISTMAS FAIR

Great news! Due to the increasing popularity of the Clare Christmas Fair, as well as being held as always in St Peter and St Paul’s church and the Community Centre in the heart of Clare, this year we are extending it into the Cock Inn. Working with the Cock means that we can bring you more stalls with new exhibitors - and with a greater variety of fabulous goods on display it will be even easier to do all your Christmas shopping in one place. In addition, as part of the festivities, the Cock will be holding a beer festival and there will be a barbecue, pizzas and other food on offer on both days! The fair will be open from 5-8pm on Friday 29th November and from 10am until 7pm on Saturday 30th. The Christmas Lights Switch-On will also take place on Market Hill at 6pm on Saturday evening. With lots of super family entertainment - including Father Christmas, who will be here on both days this year – do make sure you put the dates in your diaries and come along and join in this wonderful winter weekend. Free entry; some additional parking available at Stour Valley Community School. For more information visit www.clarechristmasfair.co.uk or tel: 01787 277100 or 07887 762872.
