7:00 PM - BEYOND THE ROADSHOW

We are delighted to announce that BBC Antiques Roadshow glass expert Andy McConnell will be coming to Clare on 26/27th October. On Friday 26th he will be in the Town Hall where he will give his 'Beyond the Roadshow' talk, and later there will be a charity auction to raise funds for both EACH (East Anglia's Children's Hospices) and the Glass Society. Tickets are 12 pp to include a complimentary glass of wine or fruit juice and nibbles. Andy is an entertaining speaker and this promises to be an evening of bonhomie and banter. Interestingly, at one point in his life he lived in Glemsford and worked for Suffolk Free Press. On Saturday 27th, there will be a full programme in the Community Centre when Andy is joined by Katharine Coleman MBE, the renowned glass engraver, and Stewart and Kathryn Hearn. Stewart Hearn is a glass artist and Kathryn is a ceramicist who has recently retired from her position as Course Director at Central St Martins, London. They now work together at their lovely home and studio in Chatteris, Cambs. Andy will be talking about Lalique glass and conducting a glass ID session, so bring along any pieces you have that you want to know more about. Tickets are 25 pp to include refreshments and a buffet lunch. For more details and a booking form please contact info@theglasssociety.org.uk or tel: 07887 762872.

In fact, this weekend is going to be a grand start to the holiday season and a fantastic shopping opportunity: a chance to get all your gifts, cards and festive fare in Clare, making things easier and more fun at this busy time of the year Speaking of fun, there will be lots of things for everyone to do and see: lots of music and carols, amazing stilt walkers, Hells Bells Alternative Morris Dancers, a raffle, waffles, chestnuts, mulled wine and Prosecco, Punch and Judy, face painting, magic, the Snow Queen, a fairground ride, a Salvation Army brass band and Father Christmas and his reindeer! We are delighted to say that the fair will be opened in the atmospheric candlelit church on Friday evening by Terry Waite and, on Saturday evening, the Christmas Lights Switch-On will take place, a fitting finale.
