Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am keen to book the Town Hall or the Old School Community Centre. I was given the number 07500642001 and the email address choc.clare@hotmail.com but despite ringing several times a week over the past month, leaving messages and also sending emails I am yet to here anything at all. If anyone knows of somebody I can contact I would be extremely grateful. Thanks Glenn

Rochella, I have been researching Rushin for some time. I have come across information leading me to Williams's father who was very likely Roger Rishton (1504-1564) from Ponthalg Manor (Salesbury, Lancashire). The Rishton's spent most of their time in Lancashire after coming over from Normandy. The (de) Rishton's evolved from Gilbert de Blackburn (1216) of Rishton, Lancashire. William's son was William Rushin Jr (1582-1626) of Ponthalgh Manor. He was married to Martha Harvey (1595-1636) of Clare. William, Jr's mother was Elenor Charnock (1553-1589) of Astley, Lancashire. Elenor was the second wife of William, Sr.

My great grandfather was born in Clare, Suffolk in 1877 - Arthur William BYFORD. I cannot find any records for his father, Edwin BYFORD and so I am stuck on this line. I know his wife's name was Eliza but I do not know her maiden name. Any help on this would be sincerely appreciated. Julie Matern britishyankee@yahoo.com

Peter Mortlock gives his pob as Clare in the 1911 census. In an earlier census it is 'Long Garden'. Does/did this relate to anywhere local?

Hello Graham... In passing, I noticed in your posting (7/07/11) you suggest..."...Mary Pinchback etc married at Bradfield street church clare etc etc" However you may not be aware that there is a village called "Bradfield SAINT Clare" which is about 12 miles from CLARE itself,so your search may be more centred at that location inc its church!! Hope this might prove useful!

hello the good people of Clare. I work for the charity Sue Ryder in the legacy and History team. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has a story or anecdote to tell about Sue Ryder or her work in the area. You may have worked for her or volunteered at Cavendish in any capacity. You may have known her personally.Whatever your or your family's connection it would be marvellous to hear from you. The stories we collect help all that follow us to understand who Sue Ryder was and to continue with the wonderful work that she began in Cavendish over 50 years ago. els.tompkins@suerydercare.org or www.sueryder.org. Many thanks for any help you can offer

My father told me that one of his brothers was posted to an army camp situated at Clare during the second world war, just prior to being posted on to Norway. Does anyone have any information regarding this camp ie. location, size, purpose or any anecdotes regarding interaction with the camp and it's inhabitants?

MANY CONGRATULATIONS TO NURSE LESLEY LAGDEN FOR HER OUTSTANDING FLOWER BASKETS AS DISPLAYED ON THE SHOP FRONT OF MARTIN AND SONS. WHY THIS BUSINESS WAS NOT AWARDED FIRST PRIZE IS BEING MUCH DISCUSSED BY LOCAL RESIDENTS AND REGULAR VISITORS TO CLARE. IS THERE SOME CRITERIA FOR JUDGING, THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FLORAL DISPLAY, FOR THIS CLARE IN BLOOM COMPETITION? NURSE LESLIE MAKES NO CHARGE FOR HER WORK BUT ACCEPTS DONATIONS FOR A BREAST CANCER CHARITY. MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY LESLEY, YOU CAME FIRST WITH ME!!

Hello there people of Clare !! I saw your lovely village on the news last night and found an uncanny link to my wife - her name is Clare Bailey ! I noticed the village sign on the news item, it said 'CLARE' and then underneath something like 'Anglo, Saxon, Bailey' etc. I also saw a standard road sign on the news item, it said 'CLARE - please drive carefully'. I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could take a picture of the name sign with the 'Clare, Anglo Saxon, Bailey' on it and the 'Clare - Please drive carefully' sign and email them to me. My wife would be very impressed :-) Cheers all

Can anyone tell me why the river levels are so erratic ,one day it's low and the next it's flooding. Also is there any plans to improve the country park? it seems to be looking a bit run down !!

I think it should be made clear that Clare & District Day Care Centre was an independent organisation and not run by CLASP. It is unfortunate that both Monday and Friday meetings have now been closed, but lack of volunteers with the commitment to work regularly and meet with current legislation requiremnts has had its toll. This also has a knock-on effect to CHOC and the CLASP minibus as both orgainsations benefitted by the revenue raised by patronage of the Day Care Centre in hire fees. I know that many other organisations are struggling to survive as the generation with the "volunteering ethic" and those wishing to put something back into society, grows older and there are no younger replacements coming forward to raise funds and commit to hands-on work. Congratulations on the new website - a very valuable source of local information

The main buses are between Sudbury and Haverhill but there is a four-hour gap in the middle of the day when people might have more interest in public transport. There are two buses daily to Bury St Edmunds in the morning, returning in the afternoon. It is NOT possible to use a bus to Bury in the afternoon, nor to return from Bury in the morning. Currently there are no buses on Sunday. With a population increasing with age, bus passes require some careful consideration unless one wishes to be stuck for four hours waiting for the next bus to appear!
