Christmas Lights 2008
2008's Christmas light's switch on, organised by the Clare Business Association with the support of Clare Town Council, St. Edmundsbury Borough Council and many others too numerous or too private to mention, was a great success despite the inclement weather. Hundreds turned out for the fun and food in the market square. The mayor of Bury St Edmunds was in attendance along with the traditional piper and wonderful community entertainment. The chair of the Town Council conducted the formal ceremony aided by a surprise guest in a red suit and white beard. The switch on signalled the start of a busy Christmas period for Clare's shops despite the all-pervasive credit crisis.
