CLASP holds annual fund-raising Autumn Lunch
Last weekend CLASP held its annual fund-raising lunch. Despite the snow fall in the morning over 70 people came together to enjoy the buffet lunch, prepared by a small army of volunteer cooks and helpers, and all organised by Liz Knight.
CLASP is a charity, which was founded in 1985 to provide help to people in need, from whatever cause, in Clare and the surrounding area and to provide social and recreational facilities to improve the quality of life of anyone who could benefit, both young and old. Margaret Taylor, the Chair of CLASP, explained just how much work has been undertaken by the CLASP volunteers over the last 12 months: the Visiting Team of 12 visitors have made innumerable visits to keep people company and have begun visiting in Abbeyfield; the team of 7 volunteer drivers have driven over 400 miles and taken people to over 65 appointments with doctors, dentists and hospital out-patients; the Senior Centre on Wednesday, under the leadership of Marian Burbridge, has served over 1,500 freshly cooked meals; and in addition CLASP has funded a number of worthwhile community causes such as purchasing 2 defibrillators for the recently formed First Responders Group.
A very busy group with many worthwhile community activities, and the annual fund-raising lunch ensures that CLASP can continue its good work.
