Proposal for Stour Valley Community College goes to Westminster

The C.L.A.R.E group took the lobbying for a new school in Clare to Westminster at the end of October and followed this up with a meeting with Suffolk County Council in early November.

The group met with Jim Knight, Minister for Schools and Learners and were accompanied by Suffolk MP Tim Yeo. Jim Knight was "instinctively supportive" and was very impressed with the professional presentation, asking many questions about the plans for the catchment area, and the school site and was particularly interested in the after school community activities. The Minister will be making his decision on what is called the "approval to publish" which will mean that the campaign can go to the next stage of public consultation.

The C.L.A.R.E group also met with Suffolk County Council in early November where the proposals were discussed with council education officials. They were very impressed with the breadth and professionalism of the proposals and will be reviewing them in detail. Both the Minister and Suffolk County Council have undertaken to give their formal view on the proposals by 4 December. Once they have given their opinion then the next steps can be decided by the C.L.A.R.E group.
