Pavilion 2008 - Open for all to enjoy

The new Sports Pavilion on the Clare Playing Field was officially opened by Kevin Beattie, former Ipswich and England International, on Saturday 5 July.

After many years of planning, negotiating and arranging finance, the new pavilion, to be known as Pavilion 2008, held inuagural football matches between the youth teams - all kitted out with their new football strip - and a very large crowd of parents, friends and well wishers were there to witness the event.

We were delighted also to welcome the the Mayor of St Edmundsbury, Cllr Bob Cockle, together with many of the council officers who had been so supportive during all stages of the development. The Football Association, on behalf of the Football Foundation, were also well represented.

John Martin, Chair of the Clare Playing Fields Association, expressed his thanks to the Football Foundation, St Edmundsbury Borough Council and the Town Council for their strong financial and moral support as well as recognising the very many fundraising activities undertaken by the people of Clare.

The youth teams have grown amazingly over the last 12 months once the construction of Pavilion 2008 really got underway. In addition to the senior teams, we now attract boy and girl juniors not only from Clare but from as far afield as Cavendish and Glemsford. A true foundation and springboard for the future of youth football in Clare.
