Regular guided historical walks, giving a chance to discover the fascinating past of Suffolk’s smallest town, will take place on the first Saturday of each month from 3 May until October.

Clare has the kind of timeless beauty which only evolves over many centuries.  Led by a knowledgeable professional guide, the walk spans over1000 years and takes in many historic buildings, including the 13th century priory, (today’s Augustinian motherhouse in Britain), the 14th century Ancient House Museum, a great Gothic wool church and many period residences.

The tour begins at 2pm and lasts for about one hour 15 minutes. There is a fine choice of places for lunch, including pubs, tearooms and a delicatessen for picnic sandwiches to eat in Clare Country Park, which is the start of the Stour Valley Path and also contains shorter trails and the Clare Nuttery. There are also antique shops, auction rooms and art galleries to visit, as well as a range of excellently stocked shops.

A coach will run from Bury St Edmunds Bus Station at 11am and returning at 4pm. Tickets for the walk cost £3 for adults and accompanying children go free. The walk and the bus from Bury St Edmunds cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. The walk starts in the car park at Clare Country Park. Booking is essential.
