Suffolk County Council to close Clare Middle School
The Cabinet of Suffolk County Council met earlier this week and finally decided to close Clare Middle School. The last pupils will go up to the Middle School in September 2010. Secondary School pupils from Clare will need to travel to Haverhill and attend either Samuel Ward or Castle Manor. Going to Sudbury will no longer be an option for children from Clare. Children from Cavendish, Glemsford and Hartest will start to go to Sudbury Upper in 2 years' time.
Strong arguments were put forward by the Clare's own Borough and County Councillors and many others also spoke in favour of Option 3. It was however to no avail - the Cabinet voted unanimously in favour of Option 1 - to retain the 2 schools in Haverhill and close Clare Middle School.
Although bitterly disappointed the C.L.A.R.E Group will continue to campaign to save the Middle School through a number options that are potentially open to us to appeal the decision.
