Elaine continues a collection tradition
COME rain or shine for the past quarter of a century, Elaine Martin has stood on a market square asking shoppers to give their spare coins to the annual Poppy Day collection.
And so it was again this year.
Elaine, now 30, was standing on Clare’s Market Place as usual on Saturday asking shoppers to give her their coins to cover a giant poppy.
She started her collections as a child of just five, helped by her mother Sheila, after taking over the task from her brother Andrew, and has raised hundreds of pounds over the years.
Members of Clare and District Royal British Legion Women’s section also manned a cake stall over the weekend to help boost the funds for the Poppy Day collection.
