Opera night raises charity cash
TWO charities benefited to the tune of £600 each from the proceeds of a night of opera in June.
Clare Coral Society joined forces with the Rotary Club of Haverhill to present "Clare goes to the Opera" at Clare Town Church.
The event, the latest in a series of joint ventures, was to raise funds for two local charities - Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood (CLIC) and Clare Liaison and Support Project (CLASP).
The event was attended by more than 200 people who enjoyed a highly professional evening of opera featuring works by Bizet, Puccini, Verdi and Mozart presented by the Oratorio Orchestra and Chorus.
At their last Rotary meeting, members joined up again with representatives from the Clare Choral Society to present cheques to Michelle Gray from CLIC and Sergeant John Knight from CLASP.
Chairman of Clare Choral, David Starr - who, along with John Senior, secretary of the Rotary Club was largely responsible for organising the event - said “The evening was a great success musically. It proved to be a great partnership and I am very grateful for all the help we have received.”
The Chairman went on to say: “I was very pleased to be involved in raising money for these two worthwhile, local charities.”
