Dentist struck off for a second time
A BUNGLING dentist who left a woman in agony after a series of blunders was struck off for a second time last week.
Robert Hossack 49, was so incompetent his patient Valerie Harvey had to visit him 58 times in just five years. It was only when she asked for a second opinion she discovered he had left cotton wool to rot in her teeth cavities.
Hossack also botched work on three other patients at his surgeries in The High Street, Clare, Suffolk, and Guithavon Valley witham, Essex.
The dentist had already been struck off for inadequate work in 1996 but was restored after a High Court appeal.
Four years later he escaped being struck off for running up massive debts with specialist labs and making inappropriate claims on the NHS.
Hossack told the General Dental Council he was not responsible for the latest blunders. But the GDC committee found him guilty
of professional misconduct and accused him of lying in evidence.
Chairman Mrs Mary Clark-Glass said: "The committee is satisfied that at least two of the patients suffered unnecessary pain and discomfort."
She added the committee: "found your evidence unconvincing, evasive and on occasions untruthful."
Hossack, who also worked without insurance, was banned from practising immediately "because of the risks to members of the public."
