Clare Man Takes Aid to Romanian Orphans
BRIAN Atkins (52) of Clare has taken part in a 13-vehicle convoy to help Romanian orphans suffering with HIV. The convoy provides equipment ranging from food and medical supplies, building materials and tools to sports equipment.

Mr. Atkins who has just made the trip to Romania for the third year running said “the convoy itself is almost a mile long so looks pretty impressive “. The convoy which set off on the first leg of the 4000 mile round trip from North Weald in Essex travelled through Germany, Austria and Hungary and was led by the Chief Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir John Stevens.

Romania has one of the highest incidents in Europe of children infected with the HIV virus due to contaminated blood transfusions, which were given to newborn babies, and the supply of this equipment is vital to their cause.

More information about the hospice for the children and the convoy can be found at www.aidforchildren.info
and at the convoy web site www.convoy2000.co.uk
