Rose Planted for Richard III
THE Richard III Society were in Clare recently to plant a white rose in the grounds of historic Clare Priory to honour Richard III. Some 50 members of the society (which has 400 members worldwide) travelled to Clare to plant the flower which is a historic symbol of The House of York from which Richard descended.
The society, who disputes the popular theory that Richard murdered his nephews in the Tower of London to pave his way to the thrown in 1483, chose Clare Priory as several relatives of Richard III re buried there. A special mass was held to commemorate his life and the life of his wife Anne Neville.
