Clare Musician Retires from School
BRIAN Swallow from Clare has just had his official retirement from Uplands Middle School in Sudbury after 32 years of teaching there.
Mr Swallow who was Head of music and latterly performing arts joined the school when it first opened. He was born and educated in Suffolk and attended the North East Essex Technical College (now Colchester Institute) before going to the Royal College of Music in London when he was 18. He studied piano, organ and general academic music subjects there.
He said “I derived a great deal of pleasure from my teaching career and it’s been so gratifying to see some of my students go into the profession” and Uplands Head teacher Philip Illsley said “generations of children will remember him with great affection and we shall certainly miss him”
Mr Swallow had to retire due to ill health but continues to teach piano and organ privately as well as conducting the Stour Valley Singers.
