Local GP Before General Medical Council
Dr Michael Leeper, 48 who had a GP practice in Clare narrowly avoided being “struck off” by the General Medical Council (GMC) this week when he appeared before them on grounds of serious professional misconduct.

Although the GMC stated there had been a “serious abuse of his professional position” and a “serious breach of trust”, they decided to allow him to continue to practice but with conditions.

Dr Leeper admitted having sex with a patient he was treating for depression and told the GMC he was “sorry”. He had fully co-operated with the GMC investigation and apologised to them and his colleagues in the medical profession.

He will be able to continue working but will be under the supervision of an experienced GP with a training background for a period of two years. His case will then return to the GMC for further consideration in two years.
