Top Physics Award for Clare Man
A Clare man, Chris Osborne has been named as Best Physics Student at the Science, Engineering and Technology Awards 2003.
The award which recognises outstanding talent in undergraduate science and engineering in the UK is also known as the “Oscars” of British science and engineering education. It is an award sponsored by the Institute of Physics.
Chris, who is a student at The University of Surrey, won the prestigious award for his undergraduate project work on precision measurements in a nuclear beta-decay of exotic nucleii. He gained a first class MPhys degree at Surrey and carried out project work at the TRIUMF nuclear physics laboratory in Vancouver, Canada. He will now be continuing his studies at the University of Heidelburg in Germany where he will do a PhD in nuclear astrophysics research.
Chris’ parents Janet and Keith Osborne attended a ceremony at London’s Guildhall where Chris was presented with the award.
