Restoration Job for Old Engine Completed
A 1953 Commer fire engine first used at Clare Fire Station in 1954 has been restored to it’s former glory.

The engine which was used in Clare for 22 years was sold to Haverhill company IFF who then used it for their on site fire crew. However in the late 1980’s the engine was sold for private preservation and returned to Clare in 1996 when it was purchased by a group of firefighters.

The original featherweight pump belonging to the engine was recently found by a Haverhill firefighter, Pat Hills who works at IFF and he arranged for it to be returned to the original engine at a presentation evening.

Members of the Clare Commer Restoration Group were “more than happy” to receive the pump and have it put back on the original engine.

The restored engine can often be seen at open days at Clare Fire Station and events in the surrounding area.
