History Brought to Life
AN OPPORTUNITY to live a part of history took place in Clare Country Park on Saturday 26th July when a family day was held bringing the history of the area to life including stepping back to the time when the castle was build by William the Conqueror’s cousin.
There were workshops illustrating weapons and armoury used as well as live battle demonstrations and a chance to see how a trebuchet (a medieval catapult) worked.
There was also an archaeologist on hand to provide guided walks to families giving details of the recent geophysical survey that recently took place and was led by archaeologists who work on the popular Time Team television programme.
John Laws the Country Park Ranger was quoted as saying "This is a free event for all the family and an opportunity to learn about history in a fun way".
