Woman gives thief a run for his money!
Woman gives thief a run for his money!
A WOMAN in training for a charity run chased after a man who snatched her purse in Clare Country Park.
The 46-year-old woman was walking along a footpath in the park at around 2.45pm on Monday when a man
approached her from behind, snatched her purse from her hand and ran off up Station Road.
The woman chased after him but he ran around a corner at the Broadway and dropped the purse before walking off on the A1092 towards Stoke by Clare.
The woman who lives in Clare but has asked not to be named, was not harmed during the incident but was
extremely shocked and shaken. She works in the park and was just popping to the shops when the incident happened. "I was aware of someone coming up beside me and I thought they would ask me a question, but the next thing I knew he had taken my purse", she said.
"I did not want the hassle of losing my credit cards and I just thought it was my purse and he was not going to get away with it. I am not usually a runner, but I have been training for the 'Race for Life' and I think that came in quite handy"!
PC Tim Murgatroyd said: "Fortunately incidents of this nature are very unusul, in Clare. Although we would not recommend people to put themselves at risk, I must say that the woman was extremely brave in these circumstances to chase after the man".
The man is described as white, of medium build, 5ft 5in and in his early 20s. He had short spiky hair, pointed features and stubble. He was wearing a long-sleeved fleece with a blue band around the middle and blue jeans.
Police know that there were people in the area at the time and are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.
