School wins high praise
STAFF at Clare Middle School are celebrating after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.
Government inspectors visited the school earlier this year to compile the report, which has now been published and praised staff in many areas. The report stated that pupils were “enthusiastic and were cared for and encouraged by teachers”.
It read: “Pupils are keen to come to school and appreciate its welcoming and challenging atmosphere and their attitudes are good. Overall the school’s provision for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is good. The school makes good provision for the care and welfare of its pupils”.
The teaching was found to be satisfactory in 99 per cent of lessons; good in 76 per cent and very good or excellent in 17 per cent. The school had also received a positive report when inspectors last visited in 1997.
Headteacher Nigel Evans praised staff, pupils and parents and said teachers were able to breathe a sigh of relief after they read the report. He said: “It was a good report in 1997 but standards are even higher now and to achieve a good report again this time we have had to move forward”.
“I think it is down to the dedication of the staff, pupils, parents and the whole community. The staff have responded with relief, you are under a microscope with reports like this and you can feel very vulnerable, said Mr Evans”.
He went on to say: “The report clearly highlights the many qualities of our school. I am heartened by the glowing praise contained in the report and recognise that it provides clear indicators for future development. The successful inspection is testimony to the abilities, qualities and support of pupils, staff, parents, governors and the community in general”.
The report recommended the school works towards developing independent learning in pupils as well as writing skills. However it praised the school for its IT Teaching, an area that it had been challenged to improve in the 1994 report.
