Centre on track for history lessons
THE former Railway Waiting Room at Clare Castle Country Park has been revamped into a new visitor and education centre.
The new look waiting room was officially opened on Friday and will act as a facility for school children and other visitors to find out more about the history of the country park.
Activities at the new centre will include brass rubbing, heraldry and an archaeological discovery box. There will be opportunities to try on medieval costumes and the centre will also feature a colourful mural showing images of Clare’s past.
The results of the recent geophysical survey done by GSB Prospection, who perform similar work for the Channel 4 television programme Time Team, will also be on display.
Year Eight pupils from Clare Middle School were present at the opening to try out some of the activities accompanied by representatives from Suffolk County Council, St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Clare Town Council.
