Drivers face up to speed device
SMILING and sad-faced signs greeted drivers arriving in Clare last week when Suffolk Police’s latest anti-speeding device visited the town.

PC Martin Parsonson who has been community beat officer for the Clare area for the past five years, set up the mobile Speed Information Device (known as SID) in Nethergate Street. He is also planning to use the device in other parts of Clare, as well as Cavendish and other surrounding villages where residents have complained of speeding problems.

The device measures hoe quickly vehicles are travelling and flashes up their speed, as well as a smiling face if it is within the speed limit or a sad face if it is above.

Although speeding motorists do not receive a fine, PC Parsonson believes the device is effective.
