Car crime statistics hit Clare after teachers computer is stolen.
A TEACHER at Clare Middle School is hoping that someone might be able to help get back a laptop computer stolen from her car.

The £1000 Toshiba laptop had lesson plan files saved on it that cannot easily be replaced as well as work already done throughout the summer.

Sharon White, the new Science Co-ordinator at the school was visiting the Bell Hotel at around 4.30 in the afternoon with another teacher for a cup of tea prior to a Parent’s Evening on Tuesday 8th October.

Her car had been parked outside the hotel for only 20 minutes, but when she returned the window had been smashed and the laptop taken.

Mrs White who lives in Haverhill was amazed at just how quick the incident happened and was quite unprepared for this to happen in Clare in the middle of the afternoon. She said: “Everyone is quick enough to knock Haverhill thinking that the surrounding villages are safe from crime, but this clearly shows that it can happen anywhere”.

A Suffolk Police Spokesman confirmed that the theft had been reported to them and asked that anyone who has any information should contact them.

He also urged people to avoid leaving valuable items in their cars, even for the shortest time and also to mark any property with a postcode written with ultra-violet pen so that ultimately, recovered stolen items can be returned.

The laptop is a grey/black Toshiba 2140 CDS which was in a black case with a silver Toshiba label.

Anyone with information should ring Suffolk Police on 01284 774100 or details can be given completely anonymously to Crimestoppers on Freephone 0800 555111.
