Shotgun Terror at Village Post Office
Masked Raiders flee with cash after daylight attack.

The tranquillity of the peaceful village of Cavendish, just outside Clare was shattered last week when masked men wielding a shotgun held up staff at the post office.

Two men entered the high street building at 11.25am on Wednesday and made off with an unknown amount of cash in what police have described as a “terrifying” incident.

The robbers were seen leaving the village in the direction of Long Melford in a G-registered Ford Escort – police believe there was also a ‘getaway’ driver at the wheel. The car was later found dumped just over the Essex border in Pentlow Lane an hour later.

Although nobody was hurt in the raid, Post Office staff were left very shaken and upset by the experience and were being questioned by police officers who were also guarding the property.

Detective Inspector Andy Henwood of Suffolk Constabulary said: “This was clearly a terrifying experience for the staff working at the Post Office and I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicles occupants or the car being dumped in Pentlow Lane.”

Anyone with information should contact Suffolk Police on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on Freephone 0800 555111.
