Pick of the bunch wins prizes for gardeners
KEEN gardeners showed off their prized veg-etables, fruit and flowers at the Clare and District Horticultural Society’s Summer Show on Saturday.
The event took place at Clare Town Hall, with judging in the morning and public viewing before the prize-giving in the afternoon.
Results were: David Byford Trophy for the highest marks in all classes —Antony Smith, Clare; runner-up — Peter Webb, Stansted.
Presidents Trophy for cut flowers —Marie Bloomfield, Clare; runner-up —Antony Smith.
Wyevale Trophy for vegetables —
Antony Smith; runner-up — Peter Webb.
Mr and Mrs K Mison Trophy for fruit classes — Antony Smith; runner-up —Peter Tarry, Clare.
Mr and Mrs Dollin Trophy for wine classes — Marie Bloomfield; runner-up —‘flevor Wells, Cavendish.
Clare in Bloom Trophy for pot plant classes — Antony Smith; runner-up -David Pledger.
Mr and Mrs P Ingram Trophy for cookery — Marie Bloomfield; runner-up
— Mrs E Betts, Clare.
CCA Trophy for craft classes — Dr Janet Jackson, dare; runner-up — June Smith, Clare.
Clare Park Lake Golf Course Trophy for floral arts — Peggy Boreham, Clare;
runner-up — Mrs I Williams.
Society Trophy for children’s classes —Alex Bareham, Claret runner-up —Charlotte Jackson, Clare.
Trophy presented by Mr Antony
Smith for best effort by a newcomer was won by Mrs M Clay. The Society Silver Jubilee Trophy for best exhibit in show, including collections, was won by David Pledger of Clare. The society holds regular autumn and
