Soul legend Geno in new concert date
THERE are no stadiums to sell-out in rural Suffolk, but one sixties soul legend had such a scream on his last visit that he’s coming back for more!
Soul singing sensation Geno Washington was one of the star performers at this summer’s Clare World Music Festival – and was so impressed by his reception, he agreed to play a benefit gig to raise vital funds to enable next year’s event to go ahead.
Paul Spurgeon, the festival’s music co-ordinator said he made Washington “an offer he COULD refuse!” but was delighted when the soul star accepted. The show will take place at Clare Town Hall on December 14 and promises to be an intimate affair with a capacity of around 200.
Other individuals and organisations have offered their services for the event, which is intended to boost the festival fund. “We usually run the festival on a wing and a prayer as it costs around £50,000 to stage it…however this extra concert will prove a major boost. Geno loves Clare and the feeling is mutual – tickets are absolutely selling like crazy”, said Mr Spurgeon.
Geno’s eagerly awaited return follows Washington’s storming summer performance alongside fellow soul singing legend, Edwin Starr. Tickets cost £15 and information can be obtained by calling 07814 010811 or by direct purchase at Ship Stores or Cornflowers of Clare.
