Police urge vigilance over bogus callers
POLICE are urging people to remain vigilant after a bogus caller targeted an 88-year-old woman in Clare.
The incident happened at around 12:15pm Wednesday 29 August, when a man claiming to be from the council called at the woman’s home in Westfields, Clare. He was allowed into the property and left after looking at a couple of the rooms – it is not thought that anything was stolen.
The man is described as white, around 6ft tall, in his late 30’s or early 40’s, large build, clean shaven and wearing an open collared shirt with grey trousers.
Police are reminding people to remain on their guard and always ask for official identification before letting unknown callers into their homes. Any genuine caller will not mind you asking for ID and will wait outside while you confirm who they are. If in doubt, keep them out and dial 999.
Anyone who recognises this description or who has any other information should contact Suffolk Police on (01284) 774100 or Crimestoppers on freephone (0800) 555 111.
