Clare lights up for Christmas and a new millennium
On Friday 26th November men, women and especially children from Clare and surrounding villages gathered together once more for the annual switching on of Christmas lights.
This year the lights were better than ever, with new displays in the market square making Clare shine with seasonal colour. After the countdown and switching on, the participants were treated to a magic show followed by some festive songs performed by a group from CADS, the local amateur dramatic society. After that more music from the choral society followed by a genuine bagpiper. While the music was playing revellers enjoyed the delights of hot dogs, mince pies and coffee and took rides on the merry-go-round. Father Christmas paid an early visit to Clare to check up on who was behaving, and he handed out gifts to the children. Thanks must go to all the Clare Traders who took part and donated goods and helped serve the refreshments on the night.
