Clare Town Council - Emergency Planning Committee

(in cooperation with the St. Edmundsbury Emergency Planning Department)

Clare has in place an Emergency Procedure. This procedure is currently being reviewed in consultation with St Edmundsbury BC. In the event of an emergency and where appropriate, the Old School is a nominated Rest Centre. The local plan will be administered from the Town Council Office at the Old School.

The main function of the Town Council Emergency Planning Committee is to provide a place of respite for persons who have been forced to leave their homes, with little or no warning, following an "emergency".

There can be no definitive list of such "emergencies" but in most cases it will be following the declaration of an incident as "major" by the Emergency Services and the Borough Council. Such an act will probably trigger the opening of the Borough Emergency Operations Centre and in many circumstances they will be responsible for providing the support and shelter required.

However, in the event that the community of Clare is cut off from the outside world (for example, by adverse weather conditions) and such an emergency arises, either because of, or in addition to the bad weather, we will have to provide such shelter ourselves.

Below are some useful numbers for you to keep.
