The
History Of Clare...
We have been lucky enough
to be given permission by David Hatton to post his book about the history of Clare
on the Clare-UK Website. David's book is an extensive collection of historical
events and circumstances, which have over the years shaped the town of Clare.
The book is presented in separate volumes...
Book I is a wide-ranging A-Z of Clare's historical features
and includes information about the medieval castle, market, key
historically important buildings and potted biographies of the Clare
Lords.
Book II - The Old Streets of Clare, is a comprehensive and
information rich volume explaining the many streets within Clare,
their meanings, historical facts and buildings. This volume is invaluable
for both visitors and residents as it describes the town and it's
buildings in an enormous amount of historic detail.
Book III is about Clare Priory - contains an extensive description
of the house and its history under the Augustinian friars as well
as its private ownership, infirmary, ruins and stories associated
with the priory.
Book IV is all about the Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul
- and contains a detailed account of Clare's centrepiece church
and articles on special aspects.
There are also three summary documents for those in a hurry - A
summary of St Peter & St Paul Church, one for the Priory and lastly
a summary document about the Non-Conformist religions in Clare.
